Did Sayyida Asiya and Sayyida Maryam (Allah bless them and give them peace) Witness the Birth of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace)?

Question

As a lover of the Mawlid Barzanji, it speaks about Sayyida Asiya and Sayyida Maryam being present at the birth of our Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). Is that confirmed in hadith?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate. May Allah alleviate our difficulties and guide us to what pleases Him. Amin.

There is no authentic evidence to prove that Sayyida Asiya and Sayyida Maryam (may Allah bless them both and give them peace) were present at the birth of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). While it is rationally possible, no authentic reports establish its factual occurrence, and Allah knows best.

The Mawlid of Imam Sayyid Ja‘far Ibn Hasan Al-Barzanji is a poem expressing love for and describing the biography of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). As a poem and an expression of love, the poem is recited and cherished throughout the traditional Muslim world and inspires many hearts to increase their love for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).

Poems are not subject to the same degree of critical rigor as hadith and other religious texts, as long as they are not believed to be facts or attributions to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace). Accordingly, it is not unusual to find Mawlid or Sira literature mentioning unestablished events for various reasons, such as inspiration or additional information not found elsewhere. If the poems don’t contradict established rational or textual evidence, they are generally acceptable as expressions of love, and Allah knows best.
