Can We Talk to Allah?

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question

Can I talk to Allah like I talk to a normal person, or is there a specific way we should communicate with Allah?

Answer

I pray you are well.

Yes, it is permissible to talk to Allah Most High, but one must do so with reverence and awareness that He is the Master and We are slaves. Allah commanded us to call on Him, which is a form of talking to Him, “Your Lord declared, ‘Call on Me: I will surely answer you.’” (Quran, 40:60)

There are many examples in the Quran and Sunna of the Prophets (peace and blessings on them all) communicating their needs and pain to Allah. Do the same and be aware that this is an act of worship.

May Allah fill our moments with the remembrance of Him.
