Am I Sinful For Feeling Funny About Religion Being Mocked?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

If one sees something that mocks religion and detests it in the heart but one almost laughs but stops right away, are we still sinful?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Your wording is a little confusing because if you saw something that mocked the religion, and detested it in your heart, you would not almost laugh.

At any rate, you are not sinful. I commend you for attempting to maintain your adab as a Muslim and have awareness of your actions.

The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to smile more than he used to laugh and it’s a good habit to develop if you can. Laughing at the wrong time and place can insult people or even cause bad manners with your Lord.
