Can I Avoid Socializing To Focus on My Work?

Answered by Shaykh Farid Dingle

Question

Is it permissible to close one’s door on someone else in order to get on with one’s work?

Answer

Thank you for your important question.

It is perfectly fine to stop socializing with someone in order to do one’s work.

If they insist, and socializing would result in harm to one’s income or studies, or there is emotional harm, one must firmly ask them to stop and close the door using as kind words as possible.

Allah Most High says, “And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them (harshly), they say (words of) peace.” [Quran, 25:63]

I pray this helps.
