Does Asking For Answers in an Examination Hall Constitute Cheating?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question Summary

Does asking for answers in an examination hall constitute cheating?

Question Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Yes, asking for the answers to the exam is not permitted, and thus doing so constitutes cheating.

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever cheats us is not from us.” [Muslim]

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) also said, “The signs of the hypocrite are three: if they speak they lie, if they promise, they break the promise, and if they are entrusted, they break that trust.” [Ahmad]

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) also said, “There is no faith, for he who is not trustworthy and there is no religion for he who does not honor covenants.” [Ahmad]

Hope this helps
