How Can I Increase My Devotion to Allah (Most High)?
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
How do I slowly increase my time in worship and decrease my time in games in a way that will have lasting benefits?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
The best way to make slow changes to one’s current practice is to do so gradually. This is only possible if one is keeping track of their current schedule.
Step One
Determine how much time you spend playing games.
Step Two
Determine how much time you devote to acts of devotion, such as remembering Allah (Most High).
Step Three
Make small incremental increases to your devotional time and equivalent decreases to your playtime. Whenever you make an incremental change, continue to implement that specific change for at least a week before making another change.
Only make any additional changes when you feel that you are consistent in the change you have already adopted.
Supplemental Materials
This is not a full endorsement of everything in it, but the book Atomic Habits has many very beneficial tips regarding initiating good habits and removing bad habits.
