Is wearing a niqab because I’m insecure about my looks and because I’m embarrassed by how I was as a person, sinful? Is it allowed to wear niqab for feelings of insecurity?

Thank you for your question. No, what you describe is not sinful. You may wear a niqab for any reason you like, but if you add on the intention of wearing it for the pleasure of Allah Most High, you will have a reward for it, by Allah’s grace.
