If My Discharge Was Not Gloopy or Yellow, Was It Madhy or Maniyy?

Shafi'i Fiqh

Question

I have thoughts because I worry about becoming junub (state of major ritual impurity). I felt a sensation but didn’t feel anything gushing out, and I didn’t feel exhausted. I felt desire dissipate after a couple of minutes. Then I checked my private parts and found discharge, but there was hardly any smell, and it didn’t look like jelly or yellow. Shall I just assume I’m not junub if I felt the sensation? Could it have just been madhy?

Answer

Thank you for your question. What you see could be maniyy or madhy, but according to your description, I lean toward it being madhy. Please see the links below to help you decide which it is, as maniyy is not necessarily yellow or like jelly. The qualities of the discharge are more important to discern, so please take your time to see which it is, and act accordingly.
