Honoraria for religious services

Question: Is it halal to receive honoraria for religious services?

Answer:

Wa alaykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Dear questioner,

Thank you for your important question.

Receiving money from others as a gift or out of appreciation for your religious services is perfectly fine.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, ‘Whatever wealth comes into your hands without you hankering after it or asking for it, then take it.’ (Muslim)

Receiving or asking for a pre-agreed honorarium is a normal financial contract. One must know what service exactly one will provide and what the default honorarium/fee/payment.
