Can Kaffara and Purification Donations Be Claimed for Tax Credits Like Zakat?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
Can Kaffara payments and money purification donations be claimed for tax credits, similar to Zakat and Sadaqa? I understand Zakat can be claimed, but is it also permissible for these two types of donations?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
If you are referring to tax credits as tax relief, which involves a reduction in one’s tax obligations, then it is permissible to consider such relief and deduction for Kaffara and money purification donations as well. This will not affect the reward of one’s Zakat, Kaffara, and Sadaqa donation.
The reason is Zakat, Kaffara, and Sadaqa are donations. A person may claim this as a tax-deductible donation.
Samura (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, Establish prayer, give charity, perform the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, and be upright; your affairs will be made upright.
