How Can I Strengthen My Connection with the Quran?
Answered by Shaykh Anas al-Musa
Question
How can I strengthen my connection with the Quran?
Answer
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger sent as a mercy to the worlds, our Master and Prophet, Muhammad, and his Family and Companions.
Steps
To enhance your spiritual connection with the Quran, consider the following steps:
- When reading the Quran, be mindful that you are reading the words of the Lord of all things, the Sovereign of mankind, as Allah (Most High) says: “(This is) a blessed Book which We have revealed to you (O Prophet) so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful.” [Quran, 38:29]
- Set aside time for reading, no matter how short, to maintain a daily connection with the Quran. The key to strengthening your relationship with the Quran is consistency, allowing yourself to be exposed to its light and guidance regularly.
- Combine reading the Quran with reflection, contemplating its messages. While mere recitation has its benefits, reflective reading has a profound impact on the reader’s heart and soul.
- Choose a reciter whose voice you enjoy and listen to their recitation. This can help you improve your connection with the Quran.
- Apply the lessons you learn from the Quran in your daily life.
- Memorizing the Quran significantly strengthens your spiritual relationship with it. Memorization requires frequent repetition and continuous review, which deeply ingrains the Quran’s messages in your heart and illuminates your soul.
- Lastly, make dua (supplication) and ask your Lord to open your heart to the Quran and help you strengthen your relationship with it.
Intercessor
I conclude with the hadith of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) in which he said:
“Recite the Quran, for it will come on the Day of Judgment as an intercessor for its companions. Recite the two bright ones, Surat al-Baqara and Surat Ali ‘Imran, for they will come on the Day of Judgment as two clouds, or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recited them. Recite Surat al-Baqara, for taking it is a blessing and abandoning it is a cause of regret, and the magicians cannot confront it.” [Muslim]
May Allah bless the Prophet Muhammad and give him peace, and his Family and Companions.
