Should I Read Full Durood after Du’a?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Should we read Durood before and after making the du’a, or should we read the full Durood Ibrahim? Or can we just say “Allahuma salli ‘alla Muhammed wa ‘ala Ali Muhammad? Which is sufficient?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

Among the emphasized sunnas of prayer is to send blessings upon the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) which is what Imam Muhammad (Allah have mercy on him) mentioned, when he was asked,

If someone was to suffice on the above, as you mentioned, he has not completed the emphasized sunna; nevertheless, his prayer is valid.  [Shurunbulali, Nur al-Idah; Ibn ’Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

I pray you are well.

I pray this helps with your question.
