What Should I Do If I Have Repeatedly Made Dua against Myself?

Answered by Ustadh Farid Dingle

Question

What should I do if I have repeatedly made dua against myself?

Answer

Thank you for your important question.

May Allah reward you, love you, and fill your heart with peace and happiness.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, ‘Do not make dua against yourselves.’ (Muslim)

We learn from this hadith not only that we should not make dua against ourselves, but also that such a prayer will not be answered. This is because if something is prohibited in the Sacred Law, Allah does not accept it or acknowledge it. (Jam al Jawami, Taj al Din al Subki)

We should refrain from doing such a thing and repent to Allah.

Allah Most High says, ‘Despair not of relief from Allah.’ (Qur’an, 12: 87)

I pray this helps.
