Can One Reverse a Dua against Someone despite My Interest Bearing Loan?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Can one reverse a dua against someone despite my interest bearing loan?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

Continue to pray for them, especially for their well-being and forgiveness, as mentioned in the previous answer. The most important thing is that you feel remorseful for making a negative dua against them, which was understandable given their rude behavior towards you.

You also mention you have an interest-bearing loan, and you fear your duas will not be accepted. Don’t worry; continue as long as you ask for forgiveness. Also, do some sadaqa on their behalf. Charity protects a person from misfortune and calamities.

Charity Distinguishes Anger of Allah
Abu Umama (Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Carrying out good deeds protects one from an evil death, giving charity secretly extinguishes the anger of Allah and joining family ties increases one’s lifespan” [Tabarani, Al-Mu’jam al-Kabir]
Good Works Protect from Evil Fates in Hereafter
Umm Salama (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Good works protect from evil fates. Charity in secret extinguishes the wrath of the Lord, maintaining family ties increases life span, and every good deed is charity. The people of good in the world are the people of good in the Hereafter, and the people of evil in the world are the people of evil in the Hereafter. And the first to enter Paradise are the people of good.

[Tabarani, Al-Mujam al-Awsat]

Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Id, when interpreting this hadith, said, “This hadith is evidence that charity is desirable when someone fears something to repel the misfortune that he fears.”
