Is Asking Allah to Be of the Foremost of the People of Mindfulness in Fact Seeking Leadership?

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: In Surat al-Furqan there is a supplication which says:

“Our Lord! Grant us in our spouses and offspring a joy for our eyes, make us the Imams (leaders) of the People of Mindfulness.”
Is this supplication implying to try to be better than others and to seek leadership?

Answer:Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.
In this video Shaykh Faraz Rabbani explains “The Qur’anic Supplication for Righteous Offspring and to Become Imams of the People of Mindfulness (taqwa).” This supplication, from Surat al-Furqan, is described as being from the practice of the righteous servants of Allah Most High.
