Question: Assalam alaykum,
I need your assistance please ; my husband and I are living in the same yard as my inlaws he has 2 unmarried brothers and an unmarried sister. Even though according to my rights my husband has given me a small section of the house they have free access to my small section.
They collect scrap cars and the outside of the yard is unbearable to even get fresh air or rest outside so I am like a prisoner indoors and I have no peace. My husband is so used to me working that he doesn’t provide for my personal needs. Is this correct in islamic law?
Answer: I pray that this message finds you well, insha’Allah.
No, it is your husband’s duty to provide for you, regardless of whether or not you have money.
Speak frankly to your husband, let him know how you feel, and ask if you can together make the situation better.
Allah Most High says, “And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will grant them a way out, and will provide for them in ways unimagined. And whoever places their trust in Allah, then Allah is their sufficiency. Allah’s affair will surely come to pass–and Allah has made a clear decree for everything.” [65.2-3]
Pray the Prayer of Need (salat al-hajah), and ask Allah to grant you a way out. [see: How Does One Perform The Prayer Of Need (salat al-haja)?]
