Is it permissible to pay online for an item before receiving it?

Can I pay online when I order an item and receive it a few days later, or must payment be made only upon receiving the product?

It is permissible to pay in advance for an item before its shipment. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]
