Is a Tubular Style Ihram Cloth Permissible?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

I have purchased a new ihram for hajj, and it is a tubular-style ihram. The bottom half of the ihram clothing is like a large tube lungi style. I wanted to know if this is permissible in the state of Ihram.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

This tubular style ihram is permissible. The bottom section is specially designed in a unique tubular style, similar to wearing a lungi, but the top half is not a tube.

It is stated in al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya:

“A person in Ihram must not wear anything that is sewn, such as a shirt, cloak, trousers, turban, or socks… And the unlawful sewn clothing is that which is normally worn.”
