What Should I Do After Pausing Sa‘i for Prayer?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
I completed one round of sa‘i before fajr and then restarted after the prayer. Is my ‘Umra valid, and what should I do now?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
When the obligatory prayer times enter, the person performing the ‘Umra (if they are obliged to pray), will stop what they’re doing and join the prayer. After the prayer, they will restart what they were doing and continue from where they left off. This applies to circling the Kaba (Tawaf) and to running between Safa and Marwa. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]
Some scholars encourage starting slightly before the place you stopped at so as to be certain that nothing was missed. If, after prayer, you started from where you stopped or before where you stopped, your sa’y is valid. [Ibid.]
Hope this helps
