Can We Participate in Any Non-Islamic Religious Celebration?

Answered by Shaykh Farid Dingle

Question

Part of the accreditation and licensing requirements of daycare in my country is that we celebrate Christmas and other multicultural celebrations. Given the situation, is this allowed? How else can we bring baraka into the business?

Answer

May Allah give you baraka, light, knowledge, and certainty in Allah and the Last Day.

It would not be permissible to actively celebrate Christmas or any other non-Muslim religious celebration, even if it is the only way to achieve accreditation for the daycare.

This would not be allowed is that there are many other lines of work that one could do that do not involve celebrating Christmas or the like.

Allowing others to celebrate their religious festivals, or educating children about various world festivals, would be permissible.

Baraka is attained through following the Sacred Law. Follow it with love, awe, hope, and a good opinion of Allah Most High, and everything will work out.
