Question

Does Allah Most High share His mercy with His creation, and is it present in His creation?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health.

Allah Most High’s relation to his creation and universe is of sheer mercy, and He described His chosen Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) as a mercy, and the statement over his Throne proves this. It is reported from Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “When Allah completed the creation, He wrote in His book with Him upon the Throne: Verily, My mercy prevails over My wrath.” [Bukhari; Muslim]

Allah Divided Mercy into One Hundred Parts

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him)reported, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Allah made mercy into one hundred parts. He kept ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent down one part to the earth. From that one part, the creation is merciful to each other, such that a horse raises its hoof over its child for fear of trampling it.”  In another narration, the Prophet said, “Allah has kept ninety-nine parts of mercy to show to His servants on the Day of Resurrection.” [Muslim]

Ninety-Nine Parts of Mercy for Judgment Day

Salman al-Farisi (Allah be pleased with him) reported, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Verily, on the day Allah created the heavens and the earth, He created one hundred parts of mercy. Each part can fill what is between the heavens and the earth. He made one part of mercy for the earth, from which a mother has compassion for her child, and animals and birds have compassion for each other. On the Day of Resurrection, He will perfect this mercy.” [Muslim]

Show Mercy to Those on the Earth

Abdullah ibn Amr (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)said, “The merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth, and the One in the heavens will have mercy upon you.” [Tirmidhi]

Inhabitants of Heaven Not Merciful to the Unmerciful

Jarir(Allah be pleased with him) reported, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)said, “Whoever is not merciful to those on the earth, those in the heavens will not be merciful to him.” [Tabarani, al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir]

None Enters Paradise but by Allah’s Mercy

‘Aisha (Allah be pleased with her) reported, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)said, “Follow the right course, be devoted, and give glad tidings. Verily, none of you will enter Paradise by his deeds alone.” They said, “Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?” The Prophet said, “Not even me unless Allah grants me His mercy. Know that the most beloved deed to Allah is that which is done regularly, even if it is small.” [Bukhari; Muslim]

Allah More Merciful than a Mother to Her Child

Umar ibn al-Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) reported: Some prisoners of war were brought to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and a nursing woman was among them. Whenever she found a child among the prisoners, she would take it to her chest and nurse it. The Prophet said to us, “Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?” We said, “No, not if she was able to stop it.” The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Allah is more merciful to His servants than this mother is to her child.” [Bukhari; Muslim]
