Mistakes in Prayers

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

Is my prayer valid if I accidentally switch the words of the closing salam to ‘asslaatu WaSalam alayka ya rasoolalAllah’ before correcting it?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

The prayer is still valid as long as you corrected the words and stated the proper ‘salam’ prior to exiting.

There is a likeness between the statement ‘Al-Salatu Wa al-Salam ‘alayka Ya Rasul Allah’ and the portion of the tashahhud supplication ‘Al-salamu ‘alaikum Ayyuha al-Nabi wa Rahmatullah wa barakatuhu.’

Due to this, the words that you accidentally stated are not foreign to the prayer, they were just misused. But since the delay is brief and the statement is not foreign, the prayer is valid.

Hope this helps
