Does a Bloody Hand Render Filthy a Touched Item?

Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi

Question

If someone touches menstrual blood, her hand becomes wet. Then she touches an object without washing her hand, but no traces have been transferred, i.e., there is no redness on that object. Is the object pure or impure? Similarly, if someone has menstrual blood on her clothes, which are still wet, and she sits on a place, but when she stands up, she doesn’t see anything in that place. Is that place pure or not?

Answer

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

I pray this finds you in the best of states.

It depends on whether or not your hand, or cloth, was dripping with blood. If it was dripping then the touched object is deemed filthy even if no traces of blood appear on it. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

If your hand wasn’t dripping then the touched object is only deemed filthy if traces of blood appear on it. [Ibid]

Principle Applied

When two objects come into contact, and one of them is filthy, then filth is considered to have transferred only if one of the two objects was dripping wet or a sign of the filth (color, smell, taste) is manifest on the pure object. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah]

And Allah knows best.
Wassalam
