Does Bleeding After Intercourse or Cervical Exam Count as Menstruation?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Ustadh Sufyan Qufi

Question

Is bleeding from intercourse or a cervical exam considered menstruation? Does discoloration on a tampon count as menstruation if it would not have appeared otherwise?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

I pray this finds you in the best of states.

No, vaginal wounds are not deemed to be menstruation.

Discoloration

The color of normal vaginal discharge is only considered after the immediate removal of the pad, and the discharge is fresh, as it tends to turn yellow as it oxidizes. Colors seen after oxidation have no legal consequences.
