What is the Ruling of Water Entering the Back Passage and then Exiting after Istinja?
Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel
Question
I have a question regarding water that exits the anus (backside) after istinja due to excessive washing. Does it take the same ruling as water mixed with impurity? I am confident that it entered my anus and then exited. That is the only explanation, as only that part appeared damp, not my pants.
I sat at my university seat in that state without knowing the ruling, this was two months ago, and now we are going back to university after the winter break, and I’m worried that I would become impure after sitting in that seat. Should I smell the seat to make sure if any smell has transferred? That would not be very pleasant for me to do in front of everyone.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
The water you used to wash your back passage was excessive, and maybe due to this, there was some damp, not necessarily. We usually don’t allow ourselves to dry and then leave the toilet. So, the moisture and wetness will remain. Rest assured, for next time, assume it is from the leftover wetness and not the water trickling from the back passage. I suggest you stop overwashing yourself, you are ensuring yourself well enough to wash, and this is what the sharia asks for.
Allah Most High says, “Allah intends (to provide) ease for you and does not intend (to create) hardship for you.” [Quran, 2:185]
The toilet seat you will return to will be cleaned and disinfected by the caretakers, and you will not have to worry about it.
If you have doubts, you must sever the cause of the misgivings and not give it any consideration. This is because it is the doing of Shaytan, and we have been commanded to oppose him. Learn the fiqh of purity and prayer from local scholars, and enroll in a course on SeekersGuidance.
