What Should I Do after Someone Walked in My House with Shoes On?

Shafi'i Fiqh

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

Someone entered our house with shoes. I’m not sure if they were clean or not, but usually, one must not enter our house with shoes. Do I have to clean the whole floor now?

Answer

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for showing your love for cleanliness, an important part of our religion.

Shoes

It is permissible to enter a house with shoes, but Muslims generally do not because it tends to dirty the ground or carpet. There is no reason to assume that your floor became impure. Certainty is not lifted by doubt. As such, you don’t need to do anything at all, especially if you see no traces of dirt or filth.
