Can I Re-dye My Hair Back to Its Natural Black Color?

Shafi'i Fiqh

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

From what I read, dyeing the hair is allowed except for black color. If the natural color of my hair is black and then I dye it to another color, can I dye it back to black again?

Answer

The answer to your question is available in detail in the links below. Please read them in full:

In short, for the purpose entailed in your question, it would be permissible to return your hair to its natural color. However, I recommend that you don’t dye your hair often with chemical dyes because they weaken, damage, and thin out the hair. Natural dyes such as henna strengthen the hair and make it shiny.

May Allah reward you for your striving to do what is correct.
