Reflection Fuels Faith: 4 Ways of Reflection from the Sunna of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ – Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

In this Friday khutba, Shaykh Faraz highlights the sunna of reflection and four ways Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to reflect. He emphasizes that faith is only nurtured through reflection. Therefore, we should embrace the sunna of reflection.

Shaykh Faraz highlights that one of the sunnas of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reciting the last ten verses of Surat Al Imran when getting up for night worship. The verses carry meanings of reflecting on the heavens and earth, and on Allah’s creation.

Another sunna of reflection Shaykh Faraz highlights is the Prophet’s long silence. When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the Prophet’s long silence, he said it was for four reasons. One reason was that he was reflecting on Allah. Another reason was that the Prophet was out of concern for the good of the umma.

From the above examples, as well as others, Shaykh Faraz highlights four ways of reflections from the sunna:
1. reflecting on Allah Most High and His attributes,
2. reflecting on Allah’s creating and creation,
3. reflecting on the good and concern for people,
4. and reflecting on Allah’s beloved, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

Through reflecting on those matters, one takes the means to fuel and nurture their faith.

This Friday khutba was delivered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani in April 2017 at the the Jame Masjid Oakville, Noor-ul-Haram.
