Is One Expiation Enough for Several Broken Oaths?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
If I make multiple differently worded vows about not masturbating, do I offer one expiation or a separate expiation for each vow?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.
If you have multiple broken vows regarding the same issue, one expiation is sufficient, assuming that no previous expiation was made for any one of the broken vows. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
This is based on a principle that expiations and punishments are combined when about a single issue. [Ibid.]
