Will My Dua Be Accepted Even Though I Don’t Work toward It?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I want to know that if I make dua to Allah for a certain thing, but I don’t work to achieve it, instead I say that I made dua, it will happen automatically, will such a dua be accepted by Allah? Will I get the result of this kind of dua?

Answer

Thank you for your question. Allah is limitless in his generosity, will, and power. He can grant you what you will, as nothing is difficult for Him. I do recommend that you be proactive, this will be better for you, and it will show Allah that you are trying to do something to receive his mercy.

Make an Effort

Be proactive in making dua at auspicious times and places. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and give him peace, said, “When half of the night or two-thirds of it is over, Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and says: ‘Is there any beggar so that he be given? Is there any supplicator so that he be answered? Is there any beggar of forgiveness so that he be forgiven? (And Allah continues it saying) until it is daybreak,’” [Muslim]
