Will I Be Responsible for the Fights between the Man I Love and His Wife?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

I was emotionally involved with a married man but ended things and repented to Allah. However, I worry about the potential consequences, like fights or divorce in his marriage, due to our past actions. Will Allah hold me accountable for these despite repentance?

Answer

Thank you for your question. I empathize with your sadness at any possible consequences, and I commend you for your sincere repentance for this illicit unfaithful relationship. There is potential sin on you for the fights between them, but you should not worry about it all. Your repentance, transformation, and willingness to be a better person are what matters now. You can make a du`a for their harmonious and happy marriage and follow up on what you did with good deeds.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Have taqwa (fear) of Allah wherever you may be, and follow up an evil deed with a good deed which will wipe it out, and behave well towards the people.“ [Tirmidhi]
