What Should I Do as a Married Man Who Feels Feminine?

Answered by Ustada Shazia Ahmad

Question

I have a problem. I am a Muslim married man with two children. My chest differs from other men’s, and my face is somewhat girly. And I have more attraction toward men than women, which I don’t like. I want to lead a normal life with my family. Am I a normal man according to Islam? Is Allah happy with my marriage? What should I do according to Islam?

Answer

Thank you for your question. I empathize with your frustration and pray you find some relief from this worry and anxiety. You should continue exactly as you are doing and devote yourself to Allah as much as possible.

Different

It is becoming more common among Muslims to feel different from others and have homosexual feelings, but this doesn’t mean that one is a bad or unworthy person. As long as you are not acting on those feelings and you are doing what you should be doing, I am certain that Allah will help you. Ignore your temptations around men, fulfill your desires with your wife, and don’t pay any attention to your face or chest, which I’m sure are quite normal. There is no reason for Allah not to be happy with your marriage.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whomever Allah blesses with a righteous wife, He has helped him with half of his religion, so let him fear Allah with regard to the other half.” [Hakim, Mustadrak]

Way out

Keep your hopes up and do your part with Allah. Keep up your prayers, read Quran daily, increase your knowledge of religion, make dhikr and stay away from the haram.  Know that Allah’s promise is true in the Quran and that He will find you a way out of these feelings by His grace because your heart is in the right place.

Allah Most High has told us in the Quran, “[…] And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide for him from sources he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Indeed, Allah has set a measure for all things.” [Quran, 65:2-3]
