Should I Stop Using a Service That Has a Symbol Associated with Something Questionable?
Answered by Shaykh Irshaad Sedick
Question
I use a website builder that has a one-eye logo. If such a symbol is associated with something questionable, must I stop using the service or remove my site?
Answer
If the logo of a service you are using is associated with questionable symbolism or ideologies, it is essential to approach the matter with caution. However, this should only apply if there is a definite, clear association, not mere speculation or possibility. Extending suspicions based purely on uncertainty could lead to unnecessary avoidance of many things, which could be counterproductive.
Allah (Most High) says, “And do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.” [Quran, 2:195]
If there is a clear and undeniable association with harmful or questionable symbolism, it would be wise to stop using the service or remove your site. The potential harm to your faith and the values you seek to uphold should always be considered carefully.
But if your concerns are based on suspicion without solid evidence, it is best to avoid over-caution, as this could lead to unnecessary hardship in everyday matters.
And Allah knows best.
