Can I Name a Business After One of Allah’s Names?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

Is it permissible to name a financial business using one of Allah’s Names, such as Al-Razzaq or Al-Quddus? Are there guidelines to ensure it is done respectfully and within Shariah limits?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

When using the Name(s) of Allah (Most High), one must aim for the highest level of reverence and respect. Attributing Allah’s name to a business is not ideal. This is not a legal issue, but more an ethical one.

This is commonly done for a mosque or an Islamic seminary.

This is especially true if any processes or activities in the business are questionable from the lens of the Sacred Law.

Hope this helps
