Does the Drying of the Euphrates Signal the Emergence of Imam Mahdi Soon?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

If the Euphrates dries by 2040, does this indicate Imam Mahdi may appear within the next 15-20 years?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

One cannot precisely say the time when Imam Mahdi will appear. However, there are signs like the drying up of Euphrates is one. People with a sound understanding and light of insight will be protected and enlightened, as mentioned, so this is what we have to try to bring about through increasing our faith and good works.

Prepare – by Loving Allah and His Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace)

A Bedouin asked the Prophet about the Hour. He said, “It will surely come to pass. What have you prepared for it?” The man said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have not prepared much in the way of prayer and good works, but I love Allah and His Messenger.” The Prophet said, “You will be with those you love.” The Muslims had never rejoiced as much as they did when they heard this hadith. [Bukhari]

Recital of Weekly Sura al-Kahf Brings Light

Along with working on our faith and increasing in good works, we need to recite Sura al-Kahf weekly. The Prophet encouraged the believers to do so.

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever recites ‘The Chapter of the Cave’ (Sura al-Kahf) on a Friday will have a light between that Friday and the next.” [Bayhaqi, Sunan al-Kubra; Hakim, Mustadrak]
