Is Our Salat and Salam Conveyed to the Prophet (May Allah Bless Him and Give Him Peace)?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

We know that our salam is conveyed to the Prophet (Allah bless him and send him peace), and the Prophet (Allah bless him and send him peace) replied to our salam, if I am not making a mistake.

But is our durud conveyed to the Prophet (Allah bless him and send him peace) also? Like when we say “Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad.”

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

Yes, the prayers of blessings and prayers of peace are conveyed to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and give him peace).

There are many narrations in this regard.

Prayers of Blessings (Salat)

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Send prayers of blessings upon me, for indeed your prayers of blessings reach me wherever you may be.” [Bayhaqi, Hayat al-Anbiya fi Quburihim]

Greetings of Peace (Salam)

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “No one sends greetings of peace to me except that Allah returns my spirit to me, and I return their greeting of peace.” [Ibid.]
