What Can I Do If I Forget About My Past Issues of Misgivings?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Sometimes when I ask questions to scholars about my problems with impurity and istinja’, I wait for an answer, and I don’t get one, so I forget about my problem. Am I supposed to go through my email and try to remember these problems, as it might mean there is an impurity on me?

Also, sometimes I fix problems, but then I just don’t remember how I fixed them, and I start freaking out about them again so should I look through my emails and try to figure out how I fixed them because sometimes I am scared I just forgot about them.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

I pray you are in good faith and health. Thank you for your question.

Sister, you are just suffering from serious doubts and misgivings. You don’t need to go back to your emails. Ignore your past emails. Most of your questions are just based on serious doubts. Keep your tongue moist with the following, in sha Allah.

Read Ta‘awwudh and This Specific Dua for Misgivings

Say the ta‘awwudh, which is:

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ“

(I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected devil.)

Make dua abundantly when anxious before prayer.  You can also recite Surat al-Nas, a Sura and dua, for protection against misgivings. Also, keep your tongue moist with this dua:

”اَللّٰھُمَّ اجْعَلْ وَسَاوِسَ قَلْبِیْ خَشْیَتَکَ وَ ذِکْرَکَ وَاجْعَلْ ھِمَّتِیْ وَھَوَایٰ فِیْمَـا تُـحِبُّ وَ تَرْضٰی.“

(O Allah! Render the thoughts and inclinations within my heart to be Your fear and remembrance, and let my endeavor and desire be devoted to what You love and are pleased with.) [Daylami, Musnad al-Firdaws]

I pray and hope you will recover soon, in sha’ Allah. Don’t worry.
