Is It Haram to Ask Online About My Sins Because Exposing Them Is Sinful?
Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad
Question
If someone asked an Islamic question online (but they weren’t asking scholars) and they exposed their mistakes even though they didn’t have to, but they couldn’t delete that question anymore because they don’t have an account will they still be forgiven or do they have to delete it?
Answer
Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for your sincerity and concern over Allah’s displeasure at something.
Asking Online
It is generally permissible to ask your questions online, but it may be futile if you are not asking scholars. I don’t see the benefit of not getting a reliable answer while exposing your sins to the public. Asking Islam questions online is not sinful as you are seeking knowledge, but asking publicly about your own sin can be potentially sinful. When you ask, it is better to imply that the questioner is someone else, and not you, or ask anonymously, as is done here at SeekersGuidance. Asking anonymously is not sinful.
