Question

Is making playdough with flour wastage and disrespect of food?

Answer

I pray you are well.

There is nothing wrong making playdough with homemade flour and children playing with it. However, after the children finish playing with it, allow it to dry and give it to animals and birds to feed on. Also, if one cannot do this, one can put it for compost to be used again as a fertilizer. This way you have not disrespected food, or wasted it, but made use of it.

Allah (Most High) says in the Quran, ‘And do not be extravagant; verily, the extravagant are the brethren of devils’ (Quran, 17:26–7), as well as ‘Eat and drink, but do not be wasteful. Verily, Allah loves not the wasters’ (Quran, 7:31).
