Is Raising Hands for Dua During the Second Khutbah Permissible?

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

What is the ruling on raising one’s hands for dua during the khateeb’s supplication in the second khutbah?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

When the Khatib is supplicating Allah Most High during the sermon, it is permissible for one to raise their hands and to say ‘Amin’ in their heart. [Maydani, al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab]

Raising hands is a general etiquette for supplication, whether one is supplicating themselves or saying ‘amin’ to another’s supplication.

‘Umar bin al-Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) would raise his hands in supplication and not lower them without first wiping his face.” [Tirmidhi]

Hope this helps
