Should I Love Allah More than His Messenger?

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question

I am a person who suffers seriously from misgivings.

Shouldn’t we love Allah more than his noble messenger (peace be upon him)?

I am deeply afraid of losing my faith.

Answer

I pray that this message finds you well, insha’Allah.

You will not lose your faith (iman) by mere thoughts and misgivings. Rather, what makes a person an unbeliever is the denial of the very thing that brought them into faith, namely, the very testimony of belief itself.

Loving the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) is a Divine Command, an obligation, a sign of true faith, and in reality, a manifestation of your love of Allah Most High, “Say, ‘If you love God, follow me, and God will love you and forgive you your sins; God is most forgiving, most merciful.’” [Quran, 3:31]
