Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Is it permissible for a Muslim to work in a civil service role involving the registration of properties, considering the potential involvement of mortgages?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

It will be permissible for you to work in a civil service role involving the registration of properties.

The reason is that you did not instruct the individuals who have mortgaged properties to purchase them or be involved in any other way. Your role is simply registering, updating, and maintaining the property registry.
