Is the Hadith About the Virtues of Offering Forty Prayers in the Prophet’s Masjid Authentic?

Answered by Mawlana Ilyas Patel

Question

Is the Hadith about securing immunity from Hell, punishment, and hypocrisy by offering forty consecutive prayers in the Prophet’s Masjid (Allah bless him and give him peace) authentic?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

This hadith is recorded in Musnad Ahmad on the authority of Anas (Allah be pleased with him) with a reliable chain of narrators. It refers to the virtue of performing forty consecutive fard salah in the Prophet’s masjid (Allah bless him and give him peace). See the Arabic reference below.

Anas (Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), He said, “Anyone who performs forty consecutive prayers in my masjid, without missing any prayer in between, will gain protection from the fire of Hell, as well as from punishments and hypocrisy.”
