Is It Permissible to Buy Makeup from Someone Who Is Said to Be Part of a Secret Cult?

Shafi'i Fiqh

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

Would it be permissible to buy makeup products owned by a celebrity? For example, a famous mainstream celebrity has a makeup line, but it is said this celebrity is part of a secret cult. I would not get it because it is her brand but because of the makeup itself.

Answer

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for being careful about your purchases and wanting to make halal transactions.

Permissible

Buying such products is permissible as you are not responsible for her personal beliefs, which, by the way, we have no way of confirming. The fact that her line offers vegan and cruelty-free makeup is wonderful for Muslims who want to make sure their makeup doesn’t contain najis (filth) ingredients that are haram.
