Is It Permissible to Drink De-Alcoholized Beer with 0.0% Alcohol Content?
Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch
Question
Is it permissible to drink beer that initially contained alcohol but was later fully extracted, resulting in a 0.0% alcohol content?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate
Dealcoholized drinks are strictly prohibited and sinful to consume.
It is common for companies to claim their de-alcoholized drinks have 0.0% alcohol; however, due to industry standards, they are allowed to claim that if the percentage is below 0.5%
Secondly, even if the claim of 0.0% alcohol is true, the drink is still impure (najas). The dealcoholization process does not purify the remainder of the drink from the impurity of the once-present alcohol. Consuming impurities is also strictly prohibited and sinful.
Drinks that are permitted in the Sacred Law far outnumber those that are prohibited. It is thus wise and more befitting for the Believer to stick to that which is permitted.
Hope this helps
