Is It Permissible to Register at Andrew Tate’s Hustler’s University?

Answered by Ustadha Shazia Ahmad

Question

Are Shafi‘is allowed to join and make money from Andrew Tate’s The Real World/Hustler’s University organization? If yes, which of the courses that are provided there can we learn/make money from?

Answer

Thank you for your question. May Allah reward you for wanting to acquire sustenance (rizq) that is permissible and pleasing to your Lord.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “O people! Allah is Pure and, therefore, accepts only that which is pure. Allah has commanded the believers as He has commanded His Messengers by saying: ‘O Messengers! Eat of the good things, and do good deeds.’ [23:51] And He said: ‘O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism)! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you…’ [2:172]. Then he made a mention of the person who travels for a long period of time, his hair is dishevelled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky and thus makes the supplication: ‘My Lord! My Lord!’ But his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothes are unlawful and his nourishment is unlawful, how can, then his supplication be accepted?” [Muslim]

I am not familiar with its courses, and I could not tell you if it is permissible or not. I can tell you that one should seek a wholesome education that will lead one to a halal income, and it’s even better if one’s education can go beyond vocational training and refines one’s mind, so that one appreciates literature, poetry, etc.

Seek Balance

Balance your education with secular knowledge and Islamic knowledge. Make sure that you know Islamic law as it applies to your field before you pursue any career so that you do not fall into the impermissible. Pinpoint what you are good at, and develop that.

Consider this hadith and the point of education: It was narrated that Jundub bin ‘Abdullah said: “We were with the Prophet  (Allah bless him and give him peace), and we were strong youths, so we learned faith before we learned Quran. Then we learned Quran and our faith increased thereby.” [Ibn Majah]
