Is Wudu Valid After Microblading Eyebrows?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

Does microblading form a barrier that invalidates wudu and affects the validity of prayer?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

Based on my research, microblading uses pigments in the form of ink to give the eyebrows a particular appearance.

Seeing that the pigments are ink-based, they do not prevent the water from reaching the skin beneath, and therefore, the ablution (wudu) and ritual bath (ghusl) are valid. Pigments that are paint-based prevent water as they are thick, perceptible barriers as opposed to ink. [Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah]

Microblading

If one’s eyebrows are not deformed such that a procedure like microblading will restore them to a more normal appearance, it is impermissible to have such a procedure done.

This and other cosmetic procedures, where the normal appearance of the human is changed to an unnatural appearance, are impermissible. [Nahlawi, Durar al-Mubaha]
