Are Dehorned or Disbudded Cattle Permissible for Sacrifice?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

Many cattle offered for qurbani have been dehorned or disbudded by farmers. Is it permissible to offer such animals for sacrifice?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

No. If an animal’s horn is broken or removed to the bone marrow or the epiphysis (the base of the horn), the animal is not permissible to sacrifice for Qurbani. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Thus, a dehorned or disbudded animal would not be valid for a Qurbanic sacrifice. [Ibid.]

If, however, an animal was born hornless, it is permissible to use it for Qurbani. [Ibid.]

Hope this helps
