Does Mewing Habitually Count as Impermissible Alteration of Allah’s Creation?
Hanafi Fiqh
Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
Question
Is mewing habitually like a cat an impermissible alteration of Allah’s creation?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful and Compassionate.
No. Mewing is not an impermissible alteration of Allah’s creation.
What Is The Prohibition?
The prohibition comes from the Devil’s vow: “…and command them to deform the creation of Allah.” [Quran, 4:119; Keller, The Quran Beheld]
Shaykh Nuh Keller explains elsewhere that this refers to permanently reshaping the body’s natural, healthy configuration through invasive means — surgery, hormones, genetic manipulation.
It also covers harmful alterations that harm the creature or pose a serious risk to people, animals, or the environment. Mewing is none of these.
Allah Most High says: “Verily We have created Man in fairest symmetry.” [Quran, 95:4; Keller, The Quran Beheld]
And Allah knows best.
