How Likely Is Water Entry Into the Back Passage While Doing Istinja’?

Hanafi Fiqh

Answered by Shaykh Yusuf Weltch

Question

If I doubt that water entered my back passage while washing, must I repeat the washing?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate.

There is no requirement that water enter the back passage. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Suppose you are referring to water entering the back passage being a cause for the fast of Ramadan to break. In that case, it is highly unlikely during normal washing for water to enter the backside at all, let alone to the depth that would invalidate the fast. [Ibid.]

Hope this helps
